The Fabulous OLD SPOT Theatre Company

Present a theatrical entertainment entitled

The King of Spain’s Daughter

Due to the success of this show indoors we are doing it again..tried and trusted and very funny.

All the ingredients for a happy end are here: a loving couple, a thatched cottage in the country and a new-born baby. Bad news from abroad catches our couple unaware, and the twosome are soon separated: Florence to London to cope with the damp blankets and sleepless nights of international diplomacy, and Jack to the ancestral home to cope with the back-stabbing merciless cut and thrust of first-time parenthood. An invasion is imminent, spies are abroad, relatives get in the way and a marriage badly needs saving: what comes first, family or country?

A unique and stirring tale told in Old Spot’s inimitable style: music, masks, high drama and low farce, with jokes for the kids the adults won’t get and jokes for the adults the kids won’t get.

Coming in under 2 hours (with interval) The King of Spain’s Daughter is both a standalone comedy of the highest quality and part four of our Jack and Florence trilogy. Our house style is suitable for all age ranges without sacrificing quality, and is ideal for communities and families wanting to enjoy themselves en-masse. We pride ourselves in being polished and professional theatre for rural audiences.

FOSTC have been honing their approach to village hall touring for five years in their native Gloucestershire, and now come bursting over its borders with joyful, exuberant theatre.

Available Alfresco May 2010 Onwards

Open recommendation from previous NRTF booker, Mel Davies of Arts Alive

“I have seen two shows by this company, Scaramouche and The Curse of Elverado.  I personally consider both were of a very high quality. What impressed me most is the fact that this company truly do offer entertainment for all ages.  Both shows kept everyone engaged throughout.

The company has a fantastic audience rapport. They mix with the audience, prior, during and after the show and taking the time to chat and become involved with the community. They appear to enjoy being part of small community venues and treat the promoters and halls with respect.

They are very courteous and helpful in their dealings with the promoters even sweeping up after their shows!”

Audience comments for this show

You all obviously enjoyed playing the show…which was transferred to the audience. It made me feel like a child again Penelope Simpson, Garway vh

Priceless presentation  Sandra Shakespeare, Slimbridge vh

Why go Stratford or London when you can have shear brilliance delivered to your doorstep ?   Chris and Tamara Butterworth, Chelmarsh vh

A racy clever comedy written and performed by this unique company, with layers of humour that will appeal to age 5 to 95  Elaine Crawford, Clearwell Caves

Wonderfully choreographed slow motion rugby…very funny and professional, the music was beautiful..a delight as its precision and tenderness interrupted the rumbustious show..very appropriate but contrasting. Very funny. Slept well after such a good belly laugh    Vivian Ray, Playhouse Theatre, Cheltenham

A Hoot  Kirstie Davies, Artistc Director, Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham

The old spot theatre gave a substantial fast moving feast of merriment. Worth every penny, still making me smile two days on. My 9 year old son gave in 10/10 and called it spectacular and was riveted throughout, except for the times he nearly  fell off his chair laughing   J and J Beattie, Clearwell Caves

Old Spot hit the right spot with the audience   Mike Rowlands, Minsterworth

Clearwell caves made a brilliant and unusual backdrop to this innovative entertainment. 4 talented players held us captivated, telling their story with humour and music. A great evening’s entertainment. Thank you  Ian Walker

An energetic performance, strong acting, feelgood music, engaging actors, personable performance  Ray Helmes, Llanwarne vh

This is how theatre should be..fun, energetic and full of talent. The two hours went like 5 minutes    Mr A Baker

Just wanted to let you know that I come to Kilpeck with my children to watch your show every year, and it's always absolutely great. It's always funny, very polished and really good fun. Loved the animals listening in the forest this year! Very well done and please keep it up. Providing quality theatre is inspirational for our children (who go to the Kilpeck youth drama group) and is just so important. Many thanks to you all.

Best wishes

Anna Cook
